a true feat

soren is potty training. it's going quite well, actually, and hasn't yet proven to be a hassle. in fact, she went poop in the potty last week. it happened at daycare (they get to witness all the important stuff before parents), and i guess she'd been pushing for a while before it happened. the daycare lady (for lack of a better term) was clapping and praising her (ya know, because you have to let them know it's a good thing to squeeze stuff out of your butt into a pool of water, that way they aren't scared of it) and soren simply got up, looked in, pointed, and said "FISHY!" she's quite the character.

my seniors are doing abridged reenactments of beowulf today. i'm pretty excited to see what they've come up with. i'll let you know how it goes.

i am vibrating at a very high frequency

as someone who refuses to pay for tv, i feel a bit ricoculus admitting that there are some tv shows in which i must indulge. we do have an antenna that's fickle about picking up abc, but that is the only channel we sometimes receive. i don't have a tv for a reason: there is nothing but useless crap on the boob tube that only serves as a distraction from spending quality time with my family. but, i must admit, i do go home on wednesdays eager for my tv to pick up abc so i can watch lost. and i actually get pissed if it doesn't come in. how's that for hypocrisy? maybe lost doesn't portray quite the demise of morality as others do; take, for instance, desperate housebitches (as my husband and i call them). there's a show that exudes decadence: glorification of affairs and adultery, murder, dishonesty, stealing, cheating--i'm pretty sure all those commandments from days of yore have been broken all within an hour's time (minus, of course, commercial time). but does that stop me? I LOVE THAT SHOW!

i borrowed the oc: season 2 from one of my students last week. i borrowed the first season from her last year, and as we do not have the fortune of receiving fox, i've had to wait patiently for that one. i was watching disc 1 last night when a pinback song came on in the background, and a really good one at that. i felt such ambivalence when i wanted to be excited for hearing one of my favorite bands play a kick-ass song on a show i enjoy and then realized how lame it was that they sold out and stooped to that level. but i guess i'm no different. i'll probably even buy the soundtrack. god, i'm such a loser. but, i'm still curious, will ryan and marissa EVER get it together?

forecast: snow

the forecast for the mountains is snow this week, and since i live at 8180 feet, this means me.
bring. it. on.
i am ready to bundle up, don my scarf and mittens, strap onto my board, and fly down a mountain covered in fresh, soft powder. it rained all last night, literally, so hopefully the temperatures will drop enough tonight to produce the desired precipitation. bring. it. on.
we are putting soren in skiing this year; THAT should be interesting. i'm excited for that AND to be able to snowboard some without her on my back. don't get me wrong, it's fun, but she's getting BIG!

i haven't been home before 7pm so far this week, and tonight will be no exception. i have to jump through some hoops to make way toward my teaching license, and tonight i have an exceptionally interesting module on incorporating mathematics into my (language arts) classroom. WHA? whatever. i just hope i make it home in time to see Lost (and i hope my tv decides to work). i can hear the absolut & tonic calling me now...

p.s. i've had a major glich in my computer, so it'll be a bit longer on those photos of the dancing hotties. i promise they're worth the wait.

(in case some of my students are reading this, too, amazingly is functioning as an adverb modifying the adjective brilliant. you see, is, as a form of the verb "to be" is a linking verb, which means brilliant is not only an adjective, but is also the subject complement, modifying the sunject anne. yes, this is what you should have learned in class today. thanks for paying attention.)

bring it on

day 6 of being back at school, and the consensus is:

i am ready for a break.

though, i am enjoying my classess. for the most part.

i have one period in which i have two classes. how is that supposed to work?

they are, at least, two honors classes. one junior, one senior. it kind of sucks.

but, like the trooper i am, i'm making the best of it. i just hope the students don't feel jived of their honors opportunity. they're going to hate me.

i've got a devil on my shoulder whose arse i've got to go kick.

How much love, sex, fun and friendship can a person take?


i have watched The Big Chill thrice in the last week.
what a GREAT soundtrack, not to mention a great movie.
each of the three different people with whom i watched it and i concurred that it was truly a lamentable fact that none of us had a group of friends like that.

alex's corpse was played by kevin costner.
