(i'm editing for some people who like to raise a stink about what i do with my free time outside of the classroom, in case you were wondering)

anne with an e is amazingly brilliant.

(in case some of my students are reading this, too, amazingly is functioning as an adverb modifying the adjective brilliant. you see, is, as a form of the verb "to be" is a linking verb, which means brilliant is not only an adjective, but is also the subject complement, modifying the sunject anne. yes, this is what you should have learned in class today. thanks for paying attention.)
