life is bueno
ahh, summer days. so lazy and lethargic and probably some other words that also begin with l. this morning i was awoken by my lovely daughter at a not-so-lovel 6.30 am, so i checked email while she watched a movie. then we did some cleaning (my chore for the day, as of yet i haven't gotten too far) and i took her for a bike ride down to the post office. i have this new bike seat that goes on my bike, it's so cool. she even has a hot pink helmet to boot. we're quite a pair, er, threesome (our dog ollie always comes with us). then it was nap time (she's still asleep!) and i've been catching up on business emails. now i'm cooking cous-cous to go with my grilled trout (oh so delish!) and then i suppose i'll finish cleaning the house. !
i think i'm finally caught up on my sleep from vacation. it was a nice holiday, though it felt as if our time with each person went by too quickly. i'll get some photos up here soon. in the meantime, here are some highlights:
--in atlanta where we visited my aunt and her family, we spent a day on the lake. we caught fish by hand, soren and i went tubing, i did some wakeboarding, my husband tried to wakeboard (he couldn't get up, probably because he's so tall or something, poor guy), soren did lots of swimming, i got more sun on my pale skin.
--in north carolina my maternal grandmother took us to a drive-through petting zoo of sorts where they house everything from deer to potbellied pigs to water buffalo to zebras. the coolest ones are the llamas and emus, they actually come up to the car and stick their heads in for the pellets you get to feed them, though you have to watch out for the emus! there was lots of shrieking and screaming going on, but soren thoroughly enjoyed it.
--on the day of return, our faithful united airlines was in rare form. they made us check our skateboards in as checked luggage (we ALWAYS check them at the gate, to avoid having them piled under other luggage and increasing their chance of being broken)--the lady literally sent my husband all the way back to the front to check them in. AND they made him sign a waiver that we couldn't hold united responsible if they were broken or damaged in any way. then he had to screen them and go back through security, actually making the flight's departure later than scheduled. she was a first-class bitch and they are definitely getting a letter. oh, and then both our flights home were delayed (the first for an hour, second for a half-hour) while they fixed apparent mechanical problems on each different plane. if that doesn't make you feel comfortable about flying, i'm not sure what does. AND we were sitting on the plane both times waiting the maintenance out. it was a rather shitty day. but we made it home in one piece WITH our skateboards, though a little scratched.
i'll get photos uploaded one of these lazy summer days.
