the only people for me are the mad ones, the ones who are mad to live, mad to talk, mad to be saved, desirous of everything at the same time, the ones who never yawn or say a commonplace thing, but burn, burn, burn like fabulous yellow roman candles exploding like spiders across the stars and in the middle you see the blue centerlight pop and everybody goes 'awww!'

funny & interesting things soren has done lately

1) while driving to school one morning last week, a bird inadvertantly flew into my windshield. soren had this uncanny understanding of what had happened, and she demonstrated this by scrunching up her face in a look of concern and asking, "mommy, bird...died?" she talked of nothing else the entire day, wanting to know where the bird was and telling me over and over again what had happened. i thought to myself, oh great, now she's going to grow up to wear baggy black pants, spike necklaces, and dark purple lipstick and think of nothing else besdies death.

but seriously, is that normal for an almost-two-year-old to comprehend those sort of facts of life?

2) she's big on kissing her boo-boos. so the other day when she had a pretty bad diaper rash on her bottom, i caught her bending over trying to "kiss it." it was hilarious.

3) we have been unsuccessful as of late with the potty training. in fact, she peed in her undies thrice friday. she ran up to me each time, pointed at her crotch, and exclaimed, "mommy, made a mess!"

4) she can successfully count to ten in english (with no prompting and with 80% accuracy as to the correct order), german, japanese, and spanish (these latter three all need much coaxing, but she gets there).

my kid rocks the casbah.
