revisiting the past
oh. my. GOD. it is hot today! thankfully i got all my outside and strenuous work done early (which isn't usually a problem, as my daughter wakes up around 6.30 on a daily basis...she doesn't understand the concept of sleeping in on the weekends). did my workout, got the lawn mowed--i feel i've been plenty productive. now, what to do with the rest of my day?
in TWO WEEKS i will revisit where i went to college: boise. it's kind of a little splat on the map, and it certainly doesn't receive much attention, but boise is actually a very cool city, for reasons i will now disspell:
1. it has all the good things cities have (bars, clubs, restaurants) without the BAD city stuff (traffic, pollution, overcrowding)
2. the flying m is still THE COOLEST coffee house in the world, and i have literally tested this theory out.
3. the neurolux is still THE HIPPEST club/bar i've been to, and they make this secret drink, the name of which i cannot remember, but it is good and it kicks my ass! it's something like the QX-17 or something, i'm going to have to remember...
4. i lived in an apartment that came with its own entertainment: the gay couple (if you can call them that) that lived next door always had the most explosive fights. several times we had to go pull one of them off the other, and once we even had to call the cops. how's that for drama?!
5. the record exchange still has THE BEST selection of used cds, as well as vinyl and new cds. i'm saving up some money to burn there!
6. it is a city nestled in the foothills, so there are TONS of outdoor things to do without having to drive far to get to them
7. matthew barney is from boise (seriously, he graduated from boise high school! and to think, a little nobody from conservative boise made a kid with my favorite weirdo, bjork!) btw: check out his 'cremaster' series art films, they are definitely out there!
8. they have this cool movie theater, the flicks, that plays art films and serves beer and wine that you can enjoy while in the theater!
okay that's all i can come up with now. but i am VERY excited to be back, especially to see some rather amazing people i haven't seen in a while.

there is something whimsical about southern idaho, i don't know what it is. i agree on most points of what you mentioned (although we have some kickin' record stores here in portland, i just found a new one last week you would die in) but there is something else going on there in i da ho that's indescribable, and kinda weird. something to do with the sunsets. big sky country. good times.
